Hall of Fame Celebrates World Series Weekend, Honoring San Francisco Giants, Aug. 1-2 in Cooperstown
2014 World Series Trophy on Display at Museum Both Days
(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – With three World Series wins in five seasons, the San Francisco Giants have provided their fans with plenty of thrills – and plenty of reasons to come to Cooperstown.
This weekend, Giants fans will have a chance to see the 2014 World Series trophy at the home of the National Pastime as the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum hosts Giants Weekend Aug. 1-2 in Cooperstown.
The Museum will honor the 2014 San Francisco Giants with its annual World Series Weekend, with the 2014 World Series trophy on display in the Museum this Saturday and Sunday. Museum visitors will have the chance to relive the 2014 season – which culminated in the Giants’ eighth overall championship and third in San Francisco – and create new memories in Cooperstown, where artifacts of the Giants’ world title will be preserved forever. Many of those artifacts are on display in the Museum’s exhibit Autumn Glory, which celebrates each season’s playoff and World Series teams.
The trophy will be on exhibit at the Museum from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 and on Sunday Aug. 2. Visitors will be permitted to take pictures with the trophies. Throughout the weekend, visitors can learn about the history of the San Francisco Giants through guided exhibit tours, trivia contests, themed craft stations and other special opportunities.
The Museum will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. both days.
Giants fans can relive the team’s 2014 World Series title throughout 2015 via Autumn Glory, a tribute to the 2014 postseason. Among the items on display from San Francisco’s seven-game victory over the Kansas City Royals are:
- Jersey worn by Giants’ catcher Buster Posey in Game 7
- Bat used by Giants’ third baseman Pablo Sandoval in Game 7; Sandoval set a new Postseason record with 26 hits
- Bat used by the Giants’ Hunter Pence in Game 6 of the World Series; Pence tied a Giants record with 12 hits during the World Series
- Cap worn by Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy throughout the World Series
- Cap worn by World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner in Games 1, 5 and 7
- Spikes worn by Game 7 winner Jeremy Affeldt
- The bat used by the Giants’ Travis Ishikawa to hit his walk-off home run in Game 5 of the NLCS
Autumn Glory will feature the 2014 Giants artifacts through the end of the 2015 World Series, when artifacts from the most recent Fall Classic will be put on exhibit. For more information about visiting the Hall of Fame, please www.baseballhall.org/visit.
