Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream
One of only two exhibits in the Museum dedicated to telling the story of a single player, "Chasing the Dream" chronicles Henry Aaron’s life, from childhood through his legendary big league career and post-baseball philanthropy. Aaron rose from humble beginnings to become one of baseball's most well-known icons, and an American hero. The exhibit features artifacts from Aaron’s career, including the bat and ball used to hit home run 714, which tied Babe Ruth, as well as the bats and balls from his 3,000th hit, 500th and 600th home runs, and the ball hit for his 755th homer. Aaron’s uniform worn while he hit his record-breaking 715th homer is displayed alongside his locker, 1957 World Series Ring, MVP award and many other artifacts from his historic career. Boxing legend Muhammad Ali once called Aaron, “The only man I idolize more than myself.” In 1970, Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle said, “As far as I’m concerned, Aaron is the best baseball player of my era." Be sure to check out the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our Nation’s highest civilian honor, awarded to Aaron in 2002 by President George W. Bush.
