1983 Hall of Fame Game
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 in the 40th Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 1, 1983.
St. Louis minor leaguer Danny Cox started and earned the win, pitching six innings of three-hit baseball without allowing a run.
Cox, who would make his big league debut five days later against the Phillies, walked just one batter to accompany his four strikeouts.
The Cardinals got on the board with two runs in the top of the third inning, then tacked on two more in the eighth when Ken Oberkfell hit a two-run home run.
In the bottom of the ninth, Jeff Doerr doubled for the Orioles, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out to second to account for Baltimore’s only run of the game.
For St. Louis, Oberkfell and Bill Lyons had two hits.
Oberkfell had two RBI and scored a run and Lyons scored two runs and drove in one.
The Orioles had five hits, scattered among five different players.
Rick Lockwood had the team’s only RBI.
