Hall of Fame Class of 2016 Plaques to Visit Seattle, New York Following Induction
Plaques to Be Installed Sunday Evening, Make Team Visits in Coming Weeks
The bronze likenesses of the Class of 2016 will live in Cooperstown forever.
But for a few days during late July and early August for team ceremonies, the two newest Hall of Fame plaques will visit Citi Field and Safeco Field – giving fans the chance to celebrate the Hall of Fame induction of their heroes.
The Hall of Fame plaques of Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza will be installed following the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Sunday, July 24 at approximately 7 p.m., but then will be removed temporarily from the oak-lined walls of the Museum’s iconic Plaque Gallery for travel to events at intervals during the remainder of the summer.
Fans planning visits to Cooperstown during these times should be advised that the actual bronze plaque will be removed from display during the times listed below. A photographic image of each plaque will be featured in the space, featuring a full replication of the plaque, while the actual plaques are traveling.
The schedule for plaques traveling in the coming weeks includes:
Mike Piazza plaque:
Removed from display: Friday, July 29 in the morning
Special event: At Citi Field in New York City, July 29-31
Returning to display: Monday, Aug. 1 by 12 noon
Ken Griffey Jr. plaque:
Removed from display: Wednesday, Aug. 3 in the afternoon
Special event: At Safeco Field in Seattle, August 5-6
Returning to display: Monday, Aug. 8 in the afternoon
The July 22-25 Induction Weekend in Cooperstown features the inductions of Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza as the Class of 2016 at the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Induction Ceremony takes place at 1:30 p.m. on July 24 on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center, one mile south of the Hall of Fame on Susquehanna Avenue. Admission to the Induction Ceremony is free, and the Ceremony will be televised live on MLB Network.
